Where our information comes from, and your rights

Who we are

childcare.mt is an independent directory of childcare centres, operated in Malta. It is not owned by, affiliated with, or funded by any childcare centre or operator. For any question about your data, or to reach the person responsible for this site, contact hello@childcare.mt — we reply to every message, normally within one working day.

What we publish

For each childcare centre we publish business information only: the centre's name, address, locality, postcode, business telephone number, website, opening hours, age groups and fees. We do not publish the names of staff or owners, and we do not publish personal mobile numbers.

When you contact a centre through this site

If you send an enquiry, we collect your name, your email address, your phone number if you give one, your child's age in months, a preferred start date if you give one, and your message. We ask for these because a childcare centre cannot answer "do you have a place?" without them.

We pass your enquiry on to the centre or centres you chose, by email, so that they can reply to you directly. That is the whole purpose of the form, and it is the only place your enquiry goes — we do not send it to any other centre, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to market anything to you. Our legal basis is that sending it is the step you asked us to take (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).

We keep enquiries so that we can show a centre what we passed to them and sort out anything that went astray. You can ask us to delete yours at any time — email hello@childcare.mt and we will, normally within one working day.

You never have to use the form. Every centre that publishes a phone number or a website has it shown on its page, and contacting them directly is often faster.

Counting clicks

When you tap a centre's phone number or website link, that tap is recorded on our server before you are sent on: which centre, which kind of link, the time, your IP address and your browser's user-agent string. We do it so that we can tell a centre how many people reached them through this site, and so that we can tell real visitors apart from automated traffic.

There are still no tracking or analytics scripts on this site, no cookies for advertising, and nothing is shared with a third party. The IP address is removed from these records after 90 days; the count itself is kept.

Where it came from

Most listings were compiled from the List of Centres in the Free Childcare Scheme, published by Jobsplus and dated 12 August 2026 — a public document. Every listing shows its source and date. Listings are also updated directly by the centres themselves. childcare.mt is independent and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Jobsplus or any government body.

Why we're allowed to do this

Most of this information is about businesses, not individuals, and so falls outside data protection law. Where it does relate to an individual, we rely on legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): helping parents in Malta find childcare. We have carried out and documented a balancing assessment, and we limit what we publish to business information for that reason.

The map

Our map uses map tiles from OpenStreetMap. When you open the map page, your browser requests those tiles directly from openstreetmap.org, which means your IP address is visible to them. We don't use Google Maps, we don't load anything from a third-party CDN, and there are no tracking or analytics scripts anywhere on this site. (We do count link taps on our own server — see below.) If you'd rather not load the map, every centre is also browsable as a list.

How long we keep it

Contact details are kept while a centre is listed, and refreshed each time a new public list is published. If you ask to be removed, we keep a minimal record of that request so that we do not list you again.

Your rights

You can ask us to correct your information, remove your listing, see what we hold, or object to our use of it. Email hello@childcare.mt and we will act — normally within one working day, and always within one month. We do not use your information for automated decision-making, and we do not sell it.
